Toddler Keyhole Scarf in Moss Stitch
This is a very basic “keyhole” scarf sized for a toddler, 2-4 years old. At this age the ability to fasten the scarf around their neck with the keyhole is very handy!
My scarf was knit in Wendy wool Peter Pan Baby Aran but any soft aran or similar weight yarn would do. I used 5mm needles, choose whichever needles give a good tension with the yarn you are using. My scarf was about 26″(63cm) long and about 4″(10cm) wide.
Cast on 13 sts.
Moss stitch (US = Seed stitch) pattern is worked the same each row, the odd number of sts mean that a st worked as k on one row will be worked as k on the next row.
row 1: k1 *p1 k1, repeat from * to end
repeat until work measures 19″ (48cm) from cast on edge (or length desired) then make keyhole as follows
row 1: (k1 p1) twice, cast off 5sts in moss st pattern as set, (p1 k1) twice
row 2: (k1 p1) twice, cast on 5 sts, (p1 k1) twice
Continue in moss stitch as before until scarf measures 7″(17cm) from keyhole. Cast off.
