All’s fair in love and Sock Wars…

What a week, it started with my assassination of a dear friend, Roo. I killed her with a pair of socks in blue alpaca so at least her feet will be warm and cosy in the afterlife. The weapons struck her on Tuesday and by Thursday she had sent me her partly assembled weapon in lavender Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino and the assassination dossier for her target, Donna. I completed the mission and by 10pm Thursday another package was in the post box at the end of our road.

My second target fell early Saturday morning and Donna emailed me news from beyond the grave of the my next mission. Unfortunately the partly assembled weapon for this target had not been particularly well constructed and the materials were not really suited to their purpose so, after discussion with Donna and her original target from whom the weapon would be coming we decided the best thing to do was for me to begin assembly of a totally new weapon from materials in my storage facility. I will wait until I receive the original weapon before I post the new one and then wait however long it took me to knit from wherever they had got to so as to make it fair.

but I’m not dead yet…. and I have the t-shirt to prove it….

We’ve also been rearranging more furniture in preparation for (1) by friend Tracey and her children who are visiting next weekend and (2) the future arrival of adoptees….it’s progressing…slowly

We now have one room which is quite tidy and has two single beds and another room which at the moment has a single bed and a sofa bed in it…rather cramped but hopefully by the end of tomorrow we will have disposed of the sofa and armchair in the playroom and the sofa bed can move down there….

I also managed to knit this –

…his name’s Herbert and he’s a Snowme (I’m taking part in a Christmas themed swap and need to send something for the tree…)

There are no more finished objects but I have made progress on Mad Weave socks, but no photo I’m afraid.

In other news, I won a competition on Krafty1′s blog – can’t wait to receive my prize…some yummy yarn and chocs and a bag.

…listed below. The draw was done last weekend in a highly scientific manner – names of all the entries were printed out, cut into individual pieces, folded up, placed in a bag and my husband then picked out 7 tickets. The same was done with the prizes and the first name out won the first prize out, second name got the second prize etc. Three people had two tickets pulled out of the bag but one of those asked that one of the prizes be put back and another ticket drawn.

I sent off an email about 6 weeks ago to sign up for the Rowan/Innocent offer for Knitting in Public Day. The idea was if you wrote to them they would send you a pack for your knitting group to help knit hats for Innocent Smoothie Bottles and raise money for Age Concern.

I wrote to them and asked for a pack for my knitting group – unfortunately (a) I didn’t make it to my knitting group on Monday evening and (b) the pack didn’t arrive until Tuesday morning anyway!

So, I now have a stack of vouchers offering 10% off Rowan/RYC & Jaeger which expire on 30th June and my knitting group only meets once a month so ….if anyone wants one email me with your address and I’ll post it to you…..only valid in the UK I suspect.

Also want to make a final plug for the Breakthrough Prize Draw- there’s still time to buy a ticket to win a wonderful prize. The draw will remain open now until early Monday 11th June (as I’ve realised that we’re away for the weekend!) will draw the prize winners that evening (UK time) and send out notifications then.

A little while ago I announced a contest to win a yarny surprise, all you had to do was suggest a pattern for my Kool Aid dyed yarn.

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment. Last night we put all the names in the hat (J’s felt fedora to be precise) and J drew one at random. And the winner is……

kozmic kiwi!

And they will be getting this very soon

Two balls of Adriafil Felis shade 5270, perfect for felting which is rather apt as kozmic kiwi suggested I make a mitred felted bag….

which is very tempting….but I think I’m actually going to knit a scarf or wrap as suggested by a few. The Rabbit Proof Scarf suggested by ladylungdoc looks lovely but Branching Out could be good too.

It think everyone who suggested scarves/shawls etc is right – the colours are too great to hide as socks and I have an image of a long white cotton skirt, my clogs and a lovely co-ordinated wrap on a summer evening (yes I am a total hippy!)

If you want to see the draw as it happened then the video is below (unfortunately I’ve never used our camera to take video and forgot that you can’t turn the camera like you do when you take photos so if you want to watch it you’ll have to lie on your side or turn your monitor on it’s side!!!!)

Since I started up my prize draw for Breakthrough and blogged about my Moonwalk efforts I’ve been constantly amazed at the generosity and willingness to help of the knit-blog community.

The swift responses to my pleas for prizes, the number of entries in the draw (nearly 300 at the moment- still 10 days to enter) and the other bloggers/webmasters who have plugged the draw on their blogs and linked back here.

So, thanks to everyone and here’s another knit-blogger doing her bit –

Dorothy, who blogs at Knitting stuff and going on and on is raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society by walking in the Relay for Life on the weekend of June 8th. She is also offering prizes on her blog for every $10 (that’s canadian dollars) pledged and she has some lovely prizes on offer.

Go check it out.
