What a wonderful story. It has been so wonderful to read everyone's responses to the contest.

I am looking forward to more of your entries. I love to read about life across the pond....

found your site through sp10, loved it. I had many laughs reading the US/UK translations. As an American I had the same problems but in the reverse. I do wish we all spoke the same language. I learned to knit in 1964 from a girl from Wales and I still can not knit as fast as she could. I really enjoyed your reminisces. Thanks

I learned to knit from my Grammy. She was a wonderful knitter and we all got something knitted from her every Christmas. We could even request patterns as we got older. I was probably about 10. I remember using some leftover red yarn and of course, knitting a triangle instead of a rectangle. I didn't really take to it though - maybe because my parents didn't want to invest in a lot of yarn. So I turned to counted cross stitch instead and did that for years. I came back to knitting probably in the late 80's early 90's and there's been no looking back since!

I learned to knit when I was about 10 or 11. My mom took me to a needlework shop to learn. I made a pair of slippers. My first sweater was this huge bulky thing in high school. I would sew a lot of my clothes in high school too, not so much now. I've always been interested in crafts of all kinds.
