Socks and Swaps
First the socks – these are for the Knitting Vintage Socks KAL I’m part of. The Feb/March sock is the Gentleman’s Plain Winter Sock and I am knitting this in Opal Rodeo. It’s knitting up really fast, I cast on late on Saturday night and did the cuff (which is very long in this sock) and a few rows of the leg. Sunday evening I got to the heel flap and yesterday I finished sock no 1.
This is me modelling the sock, it’s actually for J and I’m wearing it over a pair of slipper socks!
J tried it on last night and it fits perfectly and he actually said “I like that” so hopefully it will be something he’ll wear – wasn’t sure about the stripes….anyway. If I can manage to knit sock no 2 as fast as no 1 I should be able to give them to him on Valentines.
On to swaps – and a bit of a moan. Is it just me or do you think it’s rude when you give someone something and they don’t say “thank you”? I’ve been involved in several swaps over the last few months – anyone who reads my blog will have seen me showing off the goodies I received – and have sent and received lots of parcels.
For me about 70% of the fun of the swap is putting together a parcel for someone I don’t know, finding out about them from their blog or emails, going shopping, packaging it all up and sending it off – and waiting to hear whether they liked the things I chose. So when you send off a parcel into the world…and then never hear anything it’s very disappointing.
Some of the people I’ve sent packages to as part of these swaps have emailed me to say thankyou and several I have since built something of a correspondence with. However, in nearly half the cases of parcels I’ve sent I have never even heard whether the parcel arrived…..when you’ve spent time either buying, or worse, making something specially for a person you at least want to know they got it….even if they hated it!
Moan over….won’t mention it again.

Love the socks! They are great
I bought some circular needles yesterday because Lucy wants me to knit her some long arm warmers! I have never knitted using circular needles before, so this will be a new experience for me. I have downloaded via the knitty website instructions on how to knit using the circular method. So fingers crossed!
I already have mum looking at my jumper for me! I have all but finished it, but I got a little confused when I had to decrease on the v-neck edge and the raglan sleeve edge and on so in so row and so many times.. ARHHH the pattern was confusing as well! Even my mum thought it was confusing. I bet she`s musing over it as I write this actually!
As for your swap buddies not contacting you. I would feel exactly the same. Must be really dis-heartening not hearing back and rude as well. I did think though, have they received your parcels ok?
I like the sock! I’ve been pretty lucky. All of my swap partners have sent me a thank you and a note to let me know they received the package. I at least want to know they received it.
I know it’s not the same as a swap, but when I’ve bought or sold anything on Amazon Marketplace it makes a difference when the buyer sends you a short e mail to say it arrived safely.
