I have hives – it broke out this evening. When I got in from work I could feel a sore patch on my hip. When I went to get changed I discovered that my body was covered in red welts everywhere that my clothes had been touching me closely. ie waistband, bra-strap.
I had a similar outbreak almost exactly a year ago and, as I never tracked down a possible allergy trigger, I suspect this is just one of those “unexplained” hive outbreaks. Having done a little bit of research I’ve found this is quite common and what I have is “physical urticaria” (or hives) and in particular probably something called “dermographia” which is where raised, itchy red welts with adjacent flares appear wherever the skin is scratched or where clothing rubs the skin.
I took some anti-histamine earlier and rubbed some cream on that I was given last time I had this rash…..hasn’t gone down much though and that was about 6 hours ago. I’ve just noticed it has now spread to my legs- mainly around my knees – and my arms and is no longer associated with places my clothing has rubbed…..hmmmmmm
I’m wondering if this is another symptom of the horrible flu virus I’ve been suffering from for about three weeks. I’ve had shivering and fever, then aches, then headaches, then a cough which is now in it’s 5th day and driving me mad….maybe the hives is just my body being attacked yet another way by the virus?
If anyone has any good remedies for hives or for an irritating cough I’d love to hear from you……
