This was a project which I knit at the end of last winter and finished at the beginning of March, then the weather turned warmer and I didn’t need a thick wool jumper….will have to sew it up before this winter starts….
It’s another Rowan project (you will begin to realise that I am addicted to Rowan yarn!) this one from Rowan 38 – it’s called “Echo” and is knit in Kid Classic (one of my all time favourite yarns) and Yorkshire Tweed DK. I loved the colours in the original pattern and matched them fairly faithfully. The picture shows the Kid Classic on the rib as lighter than it really is it’s more purple than pink.
This is the tail-end of an obsession I had with Rowan Linen Drape last summer, I bought up several packets on eBay as they were ends of dye lots and were a bargain. This left me with a packet and a half in this aqua shade and another two packets in a watermelon pink. With the watermelon I made a vest top from
Rowan 31 “Flame” which I wore all last summer and this and a vintage knit lace top for my best friend from a free pattern on Rowan’s website.
The aqua turned into this jumper “Orchid” (also from Rowan 31) knit on 3mm and 3 3/4mm needles. It wasn’t finished till late in the summer and so didn’t get sewn up and then I forgot I had it so it didn’t get sewn up for this summer….this may have to be sewn up for my holiday…
This is a beaded bag in Rowan Denim. It’s the first thing I’ve knit with Denim and I really like the way it shrinks and fades like real Denim. This is a “for sale” item for my Breakthrough target. It’s a great little bag about 10″ long and the beads make it a little bit special.
The pattern was from the members section of the Rowan website
This is a long-term project that I come back to regularly but the complicated nature means I can only cope with it in small doses as I spend every couple of rows untangling the balls of yarn.
The yarn is Rowan 4ply Botany which is a wonderful yarn but unfortunately now discontinued. I bought it on eBay from someone who had started a project and then abandoned it. The pattern is from
Rowan 28 and is called “Nell” I love the muted shades of these colours but I can only ever knit this on winter evenings for some reason…
This is the first completed sock from my earlier post – one down, one to go. I’m really pleased with the way this yarn striped up and this photo doesn’t do the colours justice.
Finally, the baby shawl in 2ply wool on 3mm needles. The pattern is an easy one so I can knit it without having to work from a chart or a pattern – also the fact that I’ve knit the same shawl about 5 times before helps!.
I have until the end of October to finish this for the new arrival!
In an effort to shame myself into finishing something I thought I would post all my current work in progress – which are many!
A lot of these are only WIP because they need to be sewn up and finished and here I need to own up to the fact that I love knitting but hate sewing up so when I get to the end (or near the end) of knitting something I have a terrible habit of picking up a new knitting project and the poor half-finished article gets stuck in a bag behind the sofa.
The only time I sew something up as soon as I finish knitting is when I’m making something as a present for friends or family and I have a birthday or christmas deadline to hit.
So the current pile behind the sofa is shown in the following posts -
…. and in amongst all this lot I am knitting hats/scarves/gloves etc for my
Breakthrough sale
These were knitted in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran from a pattern in the latest edition of knitty.com – “Fetching”. They are brilliant – the wool is wonderfully soft and a pair of gloves takes only one ball and knits up in a couple of hours. What could be more satisfying! Perfect for keeping wrists and hands warm and fingers free for…..well, knitting another pair perhaps?
This colour is shade 617 and is a lovely plummy shade. I love this wool as it comes in a huge variety of really lovely warm, autumn colours and is easy to knit and beautiful to wear.
Cashmerion Aran is 55% merino wool, 33% microfibre, 12% cashmere and knits on 5mm needles. These gloves are knit on 4mm needles however and so are a very solid fabric to keep out the chill.
I think I’ll be knitting a lot more of these before the winter is out.
