This is one of my favourite pieces of clothing. I fell in love with it when I went to John Lewis’ (a department store) in Reading about 18 months ago. I had gone in to buy some wool to knit yet another baby shawl for yet another friends baby and there, in the corner of the wool department, was one of these coats….and I had to have one.

There and then I bought the Jaeger pattern book that had this pattern in but it needed a lot of Jaeger wool to knit and I couldn’t afford it all at once. So I bought the wool a little at a time on eBay as I saw it come up over the next few months and when I had it all I started knitting.
I love this coat – it’s warm, it’s bright and it always gets comments wherever I wear it. Just a few weeks ago someone asked if I could knit them one! My husband calls it my “Joseph” coat and you can see his point.

I just told him I was posting about this coat and he’s gone off singing “I closed my eyes, oohoohooh….” thing is, that’s the only line of the whole song he knows…actually he only ever knows the first line to any song!!!
The stripes are in Jaeger Matchmaker Merino DK, Natural Fleece and Jaeger Fur. The only problem with it is that it tends to stretch at the front edges and the bottom drags on the ground…I guess I should have knitted it an inch shorter, except that it is the perfect length at the back. My latest idea is to stitch some “stay” stitchs down the front edges to stop it stretching as much.
