Scarves for my sale
I’m currently knitting up scarves in all shapes and sizes from yarn that has been given to me or that is left over from other projects. I’m trying to build up some stock for a sale I’m hoping to have before Christmas to raise money for my favourite charity, Breakthrough.
Here are some of the scarves I’ve done so far – if you’re interested in buying one or commissioning one in a different colour or yarn just let me know (or any other article you’ve seen on here).

This is a curly scarf which is knit with a chunky yarn – this particular one was Lion Brand Woolease.

This is a skinny scarf in an eyelash yarn – Sirdar I think. It was a left over part ball from a top I knit for my sister-in-law. She started it and then passed it to me as she found it difficult to knit with and maintain gauge and I knit very tightly. With the bit I had left I used size 8 (UK) needles, cast on about 15 stitches and started knitting stocking stitch till it ran out. The colours are more deep red then they show in the photo.

Another eyelash yarn – Lion Brand Fun Fur – and a keyhole scarf. 8mm needles, 12 stitches knit as long as you want it with a hole formed by casting off the middle 6 stitches and then casting them back on again next row. The picture shows it doubled round but it can be worn just singly with the crossover lower down.

Another Lion Brand yarn – Suede – knit from 1 ball of yarn to the pattern on the ball band “Half Hour Skinny Suede Scarf” – it really did take 1/2 hour as it uses Lion Brand “Speed Stix” which are HUGE - 25mm needles!!!.

This I love, really effective self striping yarn – Lion Brand Fun Fur Stripes. Just get some big needles – 6.5-7mm cast on as many stitches as you want and knit to length. I used two balls of yarn as I wanted a fairly wide scarf which gave narrow stripes. Obviously the narrower the scarf the wider the stripes of colour would be.
Not a scarf but a child’s hat and mittens knit from DK which was given to me by my mum from an abandoned project.
I’ve decided that scarves, hats & gloves are the best things to knit to sell as they are quick to knit and make good presents. Will probably do some socks as well as I’ve just discovered sock knitting is not as tricky as I thought it was!
I’m also going to knit some baby/toddler items as I have a huge stash of mainly 2ply and 4ply wool in pastel colours that was inherited from my nan. She used to knit for her church bazaars and also crochet blankets for the homeless so everyone used to give her their leftover yarn.
If anyone has any good free patterns for baby items, toys, decorations etc etc that only use small oddments of wool then please let me know.
